Bugs - Friend or Foe?
I've just received some advice from a parent (Big Thanks to you!) who is on the homeschooling mailing list about getting bugs such as lady bugs, grasshoppers, moths and crickets (note: crickets-make sure to keep one female and one male only. Males will fight and kill one another.) She suggested keeping the bugs in bug boxes with nets that can be purchased at the Dollar Store.
She also recommended using classical writer's from the golden area of books and The Story Book of Science by Jean Henri Fabri. I am so thankful for this invaluable information.
Honestly my memories of getting to know bugs are not that pleasant. Mainly because my younger brother would put one of those creepy crawlies close to my face and it would make my hair stand. Well, for the sake of my daughter, I'll have to be brave and conquer my fear.
Since my dear sister is coming to the States in June with her two kids, I have been suggesting that she try homeschooling her kids. I honestly believe that she is fully capable of doing a great job, and her two kids will benefit greatly. I don't want to pressure her to do something she is not comfortable doing, but I want her to make an informed decision. Hopefully she will seriously consider this possibility for her kids' sake.
