New Hen in the Coop

When we went to the animal farm to get chicken food this morning , I mentioned to husband that maybe we should get another hen. Unfortunately the chicken breed that we want are the ones in this cage.

So we got the smaller hen, thinking that maybe she is younger based on her size.

As expected after reading about adding new hens to the existing flock on HenBlog, the three ladies did not give a warm welcome to the latest addition. They ganged up to pin her down or peck at her whenever she wants to drink or eat. Even with close supervision the new hen still was attacked by the rest. I understand that they are trying to establish the pecking order, so I have no choice but to provide separate food and water container for the new hen for the first few hours to prevent dehydration. Later in the evening I put a separate stake on the top level in the chicken coop for the new hen to roost. Fortunately the other hens let her roost in peace by herself. Allah SWT willing tomorrow the new hen will slowly gain acceptance.
