Preschool Story Time

This morning I brought daughter to the public library to make our new library cards. I feel so much better after having my new library membership.

While waiting for the preschool story time program to begin at 11am, I read some books to daughter and reminded her about proper behavior in the library. A Korean lady, with her 4 year old daughter, who were waiting for the program to begin, arrived shortly before it began. I chatted with her and found out that she just moved to this area few months back. She has a son who is attending school, so she brought her daughter to the public library.

The preschool story time was quite well presented by a librarian in her 50s. About 15-20 kids attended the program and fortunately the room was large enough to accommodate all. Here is the outline of today's program:

1. She brought out an alligator puppet for the Monkey and Alligator nursery rhyme.
2. Talked about being hurt and putting a band aid on the wound.
3. Talked about Jack and Jill nursery rhyme.
4. Read a book about Charlie (Charlie and Lola) getting an arm cast.
5. Got the children to stand up and do the actions for Five Monkeys on the Bed nursery rhyme.
6. Read a rhyme about a rabbit getting band aid on the head, arm, elbow, leg and chin. Invited children to put dot stickers on large pictures of Humpty Dumpty and a rabbit on the wall.
7. Read a book about subtracting number of animal patients waiting to see a doctor. Distributed dot stickers to children for pretend play.
8. Invited children to form a big circle to sing the song 'The more we get together'.
9. Distributed glue sticks for the children to stick q-tips, bandage and cotton gauze on a booklet.

The program lasted about 45 minutes and daughter had a good time. This is the first time she interacted with other children and she seemed quite shy to talk to others. A lady with her two boys who sat in front of me gave a lot of encouragement to daughter, so daughter slowly warmed up and joined in the action rhyme.

Allah SWT willing if the weather permits next week, I will bring daughter to attend this program.
