Homeschooling: Charlotte Mason and Khalifah Method

I am combining Charlotte Mason's Students Motto http://www.amblesideonline.org/CM/CMMotto.html and the Khalifah Method http://www.islamic-world.net/khalifah-project/Proposal-two-ADNI.htm to create a simple goal list for daughter. Thanks to Sr. Nor who told me about the Khalifah method.

Allah SWT willing I will incorporate these goals when I am homeschooling her.

Allah SWT Made Me a Khalifah

My Goals

1. Make Myself Good

I am . . . Allah SWT’s creation, a gift to my parents and my country. I'm a person of great value because Allah SWT made me.

I can . . . do all things and Allah SWT has made me able to do everything required of me.

I ought . . . to do my duty to obey Allah SWT , to submit to my parents and everyone in authority over me, to be of service to others, and to keep myself healthy with proper food and rest so my body is ready to serve.

I will . . . resolve to keep a watch over my thoughts and choose what's right even if it's not what I want.

2. Help Others Become Good

I can . . . encourage others to do all things and Allah SWT has made them able to do everything required of them.

I ought . . . to do remind others of their duty to obey Allah SWT , to submit to their parents and everyone in authority over them, to be of service to others, and to keep themselves healthy with proper food and rest so their bodies are ready to serve.

I will . . . remind others to keep a watch over their thoughts and choose what's right even if it's not what they want.

3. Make This World Clean and Beautiful to Please Allah SWT

I can… reuse, reduce and recycle all things.

I ought… to leave this world a better place for others when I die.

1. The Law of learning.

* 3 factors that influence the formation of personality; Physical , social and inner thought.
* using inner thought to fight negative influence.
* understanding SHAPING.

REWARD increase the probability for good action to be repeated, PUNISHMENT have the REVERSE effect.

SHAPING is small steps to be done to achieve the final target.

2. World view and the concept of Khalifah.

World view is a general perspective on why we are here, the usual questions of who,where and why. DIFFERENT answer result in DIFFERENT action. View is important because its answer the general inquiry on life. with the RIGHT guidance a CLEAR path will lead to the RIGHT answers.

3. The Khalifah responsibilities:

* Make myself good.
* Help Others become good.
* Make the physical world good.

Do not practice permissive action - which is letting the children do what they want without a proper guide.
