Lu Shun (1881.9.25—1936.10.19)

One of my favorite Chinese writers in the 20th century is Lu Shun. I read some of his books when I was in Junior College. One of them talked about serving the poor and not to look down or despise them, and I was really impressed with his writing then. He wrote many short stories, poetry and memoirs and died from tuberculosis in China.

All praise be to Allah SWT I found more details about him on the following web site and this poem is a dedication to the deceased writer.

  有的人活着 (some people live)
  他已经死了; (but they are dead)
  有的人死了 (some people died)
(but they live on forever)

(climb on top of other's head and proclaim "I am great!")
  有的人 (some people)
(bend down their body to let others use them as cows or horses)
  有的人 (some people)
把名字刻入石头想“不朽”; (thought of carving their names in stones to be immortal)
  有的人 (some people)
(rather be wild grass and wait for the fire)
  有的人 (some people)
他活着别人就不能活; (live so that others will die)
  有的人 (some people)
(live to let others have a better life)

把名字刻入石头的, (those who carve their names in stones)
名字比尸首烂得更早; (their names will rot faster than the corpses)
只要春风吹到的地方, (where ever the wind blows)
(everywhere is fields of green wild grass)
他活着别人就不能活的人, (those who live so that others die)
他的下场可以看到; (their ending can be seen clearly)
