A Political Scandal

On last night's '20/20', I watched the program about how a United States senator, John Edwards, kept telling lies to deny his affair and how his subordinate, Andrew Young, covered up the lies with generous support from political donors.

'When presidential contender John Edwards decided he had to hide his mistress and her pregnancy from his wife -- and from the voters -- he concocted an elaborate scheme to keep the scandal a secret, according to the once-loyal aide who helped smuggle the woman through a series of luxurious hideaways. Wealthy benefactors were called on and their sizable contributions funded the lavish life on the lam. ' - Extract from ABCNews.com

I am really disappointed in this senator's conduct in his personal affair. When he campaigned to run for U.S. Vice President with John Kerry in 2004, and for U.S. Presidency in 2008, he came across as someone who would take care of his family and work hard to rebuild this country's economy. On screen and in front of the media, he looked like a honest and loyal person who would not betray his wife and children. At that time, I thought he would make a great president for this country.

After watching this program, I don't think I will buy a copy of Andrew Young's book 'The Politician' about John Edward's affair. I have had enough from watching '20/20'.

The only victims in this scandal are the Edwards' two young children and the Young's three young children who have to live with the impact of the lies on their lives. I just hope that there will not be any negative effect from this cover up on the children from both families, Allah SWT willing.
