Kudos to my mother
I remember when I was growing up, I hated being myself (the slower twin) because my self image/self-confidence was not as high as I wanted it to be. And the fact that I was labeled "the dumbest" in my family didn't help to raise my self-esteem. My mother did constantly reminded me that if I were to study hard enough (memorizing textbook contents and math formulas) I could be smarter.
I have to thank her for giving me the much needed attention when I was studying for the GCE 'O' level examination (equivalent to high school diploma in US). She stayed home and supervised me while I worked on endless pages of the 10-year series math exam questions and memorized history and geography facts. If she hadn't done so I would probably have failed the exam.
Maybe if I were to have the constant attention from my mother I would have stayed in Singapore instead of wanting to get out of the country. Well, only Allah SWT knows best.
But it is because of my mother who took time to stay home with me that made me realized I want to do that for my daughter.
I want to build up her the self-confidence so she can have the courage to venture into the hostile world.
I want to give her a high self-image so she wants to protect her modesty when I am not looking.
I want to raise her self-esteem as high as possible so she will love herself for who she is and compassion for others.
May Allah SWT give me strength and wisdom to do all these and more for her.
