Social Development Goals
I have been reading "The Home School Manual: plans, pointers, reasons, and resources" edited by Theodore E. Wade, Jr. and others.
Here is a list of social development goals on page 286. I found myself evaluating my social skills based on this list and it seems that my mother did taught me most of them by being a role model. Allah SWT willing I hope I can be a role model for my daughter in this area too.
Social Development Goals
1. Social graces - courtesy and good manners that make an individual pleasant to have around.
2. The ability to make and enjoy friends.
3. Respect for authority - parents, adults, superiors, government, and Creator.
4. Sensitivity to the needs and feelings of others, and the ability to transmit gracefully one's own unselfish feelings.
5. Conversation and correspondence skills.
6. The ability to give and take in a normal relationship with other people, and the grace to cooperate when things don't go one's way.
7. Skill in defusing tense situations - generally by cheerfulness mixed with sensitivity to the cause of the problem.
8. Prudence in developing business or social relationships. This means faithfulness, avoiding misunderstandings, and tactful precautions against being dealt with dishonesty.
9. Development of leadership, a skill which includes good "fellowship" and the ability to share decision making, helping everyone feel like a part of the team.
The sensitivity and faithfulness to become a good life partner.
