Visiting the Sick
When I was in the hospital after daughter was born, Sr. Anita, Sr. Ume, Sr. Norsofina, Sr. Zaleha and Sr. Fatima visited me for a brief time. They were so kind to bring food for husband, daughter and me. Although I was tired, their presence really lifted up my spirit and I was thankful that they took the time to visit me.
At the time of their visit, the baby was undergoing treatment for jaundice, so they did not get to see the baby. Allah SWT willing when the baby is one month old, I will invite them over to our place so that they can spend some time with the baby.
Several friends also sent text messages, email or called to send kind regards to the baby and me. Reading and hearing those warm messages from Sr. Angela, Sr. Eram, Sr. Ashley, Sr. Malika, Sr. Brenda and Sr. Kanura really brought me comfort.
A friend in Singapore, Ailing, and my sister's friend in Massachusetts also send their congrats to me through my dear sister. I really appreciate their concern for me even though we live far apart.
According to a Islamic hadith*, it is upon every Muslim's duty to visit the sick when one is able to do so:
“On the Day of Resurrection, God the Mighty and Majestic will say: ‘O child of Adam! I became sick and you did not visit me!’ The person will say, ‘O Lord, how can I visit you and you are the Lord of all that Exists!’ God will say, ‘Did you not know that my slave ‘so and so’ became sick, and you did not visit him? Did you not know that if you visited him, you would have found me with him?’” (Saheeh Muslim)
*Hadith - narrations originating from the words and deeds of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him)
