International Women's Day
Today is International Women's Day. In Chinese it is 'San Ba Fu Nu Jie' (March 8th Women's Festival).
According to the IWD web site, 'International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. '
'It is a major day of global celebration of women. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.' - Wikipedia
I have to say that my mother and my dear sister have been my role models on how to be a strong woman, a good wife and a good mother.
Although my mother did not have the opportunity to receive an education, she taught herself how to read Chinese characters, fix electrical stuff around the house, and be financially responsible for her household. Although she is in Singapore, I think of her every day and pray that soon I will be able to go back to hang out with her, Allah SWT willing.
My dear sister, who got married in her early twenties, is my role model through her love and dedication for her husband and children. She is my best friend and I am blessed to have her in my life every day.
Who are the women in your life that influenced you to be who you are today?
