Ruling of the Brits

Singapore was colonized by the British in the 1826. If you were to visit Singapore you will see lots of buildings built in the British architectural style.

I just read about the invasion of the British in Ireland in 1170.

Its sad to know that because of the lack of unity among the people (mainly warlords killing one another to gain power and fortune), Ireland was conquered by England and its wealth stripped away by English kings and queens. Now I know why the Brits had so much money to colonized Southeast Asia countries like Singapore and Malaysia.

And because of the invasion and British occupation for over 800 years, most of Irish literature and language were lost since they were banned by English rulers.

I cannot imagine the tremendous loss Singaporeans will suffer if Singlish (Singapore English) were to be banned by a foreign country that occupy Singapore. There will be no more diversity and unique identity that Singlish gives to Singaporeans.

In the Holy Quran, it is stated that:

“O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is the one who is the most God-fearing.” [The Holy Quran: Sûrah al-Hujûrât:13]

Although I don't agree with the Ireland Republican Army's strategy of using bombs and weapons to try to free Ireland from English rule, I believe that anyone has the right to fight for his/her freedom. Its about time the Brits get out of people's front and backyard.
